Iced Matcha Latte Recipe: The Simple Classic
Share
Your Everyday Iced Matcha Latte π΅
Some mornings call for something simple.
No fancy ingredients, no long to-do list. Just a glass full of ice, your favourite milk and a creamy, bright green matcha on top.
This iced matcha latte is the one I come back to again and again. It's the classic, and honestly, it's the best place to start if you're new to matcha.
At Tropical Mama Matcha, we're all about little rituals that make an ordinary day feel a bit more special. This is one of them.
Prefer to Watch? π¬
Sometimes it's easier to see it than to read it. Here's how I make mine in my reel.
What Makes a Good Iced Matcha Latte?
Three things: a smooth matcha, plenty of ice and a milk you love. That's it.
You whisk your matcha into a smooth paste first, so it dissolves properly and you don't end up with clumps at the bottom of your glass. Then you simply pour it over the milk and watch the swirls. Yes, that part is half the fun.
Ingredients (1 glass)
- 3 g ceremonial matcha, which is one scoop of the measuring spoon from our Matcha Set
- A splash of warm water (not boiling)
- About 100 ml milk of your choice or water, for whisking
- Plenty of ice cubes
- Milk of your choice, to fill the glass to about three-quarters
What You Need
- A bowl (chawan)
- A chasen (bamboo whisk) or a hand frother
- A 3 g measuring spoon
- Your favourite glass and a glass straw
How to Make It
- Dip your chasen in warm water for a moment. It's the little trick for a perfect froth.
- Add 3 g matcha to your bowl.
- Add a splash of warm water and whisk into a smooth paste.
- Add about 100 ml milk or water and whisk in little M or W movements until your matcha is frothy and creamy. A hand frother works, too.
- Fill your glass with ice and add milk until it's about three-quarters full.
- Pour your matcha over the milk.
- Add your straw and enjoy it.
Little Tips for the Perfect Glass
- Keep the water below boiling. Hot water can take away the beautiful flavour of your matcha.
- Don't skip the paste. A splash of warm water first helps the matcha dissolve properly.
- Look for a fine, creamy foam. That's how you know your matcha is whisked well.
- Make it yours. Not sure about the amount? Play with it until it tastes just right for you.
Make It Your Own
The best part about this recipe is how much room there is to play.
Try it with cow's milk, oat barista or coconut barista milk. Each one gives your latte a slightly different character, and you'll quickly find your favourite.
Prefer it warm? Fill your cup to about three-quarters with warm, frothed milk, pour the matcha over the top and serve it with a spoon. Same recipe, cosier mood.
How to Serve It
Use the glass you love most. Add a glass straw, put it on a pretty coaster and take a minute to actually sit with it.
Because a good matcha isn't only about what's in the glass. It's the little moment around it.
Your Next Matcha Moment π
One glass, a few minutes, nothing complicated. That's all it takes to make an ordinary day feel a little more special.
